A date with Canelo Alvarez looms, but WBC & Ring Magazine Middleweight World Champion put on a show for the 12,157 boxing fans who packed Brooklyn’s Barclays Center in advance of the Puerto Rican Day celebrations coming up.
It wasn’t Madison Square Garden, but a new venue was perfect for an improved and battering ram version of Cotto that looks to be more formidable than he’s ever been.
Cotto dominated in every facet landing more total punches, jabs and power punches over an overwhelmed Daniel Geale who looked overmatched from the start.
Cott dropped Geale with a crushing left hand early in round four that probably should have ended the fight.

Cotto then blistered Geale with combinations and body shots, before dropping him and finishing him for good with this wicked right hand to the top of the head.

According to CompuBox numbers, Cotto closed the show in the fourth round landing 17 of 34 power shots on Geale who was content wish cashing his check at that point.
Cotto acknowledged the elephant in the room, and made it clear that after some time away with his family, his attention would turn to Canelo Alvarez and a fall pay per view date.
“Why not? We need to do our fight, Canelo is the next one. After that, if Gennady is available and wants to fight, I’m available, too,” Cotto said.
