President Obama is a politician and, whether we like it or not, that means a lot of random garbage coming out of his mouth during many of his speeches.
Don’t blame the man for it. He’s forced to do God knows how many speeches a year; plus, you have to play the crowd at certain events like any other performer. Every once in a while, though, we’re reminded that Obama really would keep it real about everything – had it not be for his glorious position.
Recently, while at the G7 summit in Germany, the President was asked to speak on the current FIFA scandal. Even though he laid down the normal “can’t comment on an ongoing investigation” type deal – the Commander in Chief also said what’s on everyone else’s mind.
“The United States, by the way, since we keep on getting better and better at each World Cup, we want to make sure that a sport that is gaining popularity is conducted in an upright manner.”
Or in other words: if this sport wasn’t gaining incredible traction in our country, we probably would have continued to stay out of FIFA’s way.
I love it. There’s more to his speech, transcribed below, along with the actual video.
Even if its about something you may not be a huge fan of, it’s always nice to hear your President keep it real once in a while.
“I will say that in conversations I’ve had here, in Europe, people think it is very important for FIFA to be able to operate with integrity and transparency and accountability.”
“And so, as the investigation and charges proceed, I think we have to keep in mind that although football — or soccer, depending on which side of the Atlantic you live on — is a game, it’s also a massive business, it’s a source of incredible national pride, and people want to make sure that it operates with integrity.”
