I’m still trying to figure how the St. Louis Cardinals — a perennial World Series contender — felt obliged to hack and steal data from the lowly Houston Astros?
The FBI is currently trying to decipher when the St. Louis Cardinals allegedly started stealing information from the Houston Astros, but according to one report, it’s been going on for several years now.
Allegations began to surface in June 2014, when organizational discussions the Astros were having, started getting posted on a hacker-type website. Evan Drellic of the Houston Chronicle reports that Cardinals employees actually had unauthorized access to the Astros information as early as 2012.
On Thursday, Cardinals owner Bill DeWitt Jr. acknowledged that his team played a role in the hack, hinting to some type of rogue activity by a lower level staff member.
“Those responsible will be held accountable, and we will continue what we feel is a great franchise,” DeWitt said.
“I still don’t know the reason for it,” he added. “I can’t come up with a reason for it. It goes against everything we stand for. We don’t know who did what here.”
The FBI getting involved lets you know that it’s not your typical cheating scandal.
