The Money in the Bank pay-per-view is generally one of the most exciting of the year for WWE. With the briefcase and a title shot on the line, the night generally marks the beginning of the countdown to WWE gold for one superstar. Let’s take a look at what superstar walked out with the gold briefcase and what other matches stole the show.
Rollins Shows Everyone He’s For Real
Coming into the MITB main event, Seth Rollins was telling anyone who would listen that he didn’t need Kane, J&J Security or the Authority to be Champion and he would prove it against Dean Ambrose in a ladder match for the title. Heading out to the ring, he is stopped by the Authority and Triple H delivers one hell of a motivational speech, telling Seth to show everyone why he is the chosen one. He yells at Rollins to show them all who he is and man, that was a great way to get everyone hyped for this match.
And oh my goodness, what a match it was.
Rollins and Ambrose put on a clinic for nearly 40 long, grueling, excruciating minutes. From the beginning, it was clear Rollins was going to be focusing on Ambrose’ knee, nailing it with a chair while the Lunatic tried to climb the ladder and focusing on it throughout the entire match.
After locking Ambrose into a Figure Four on the ringpost, Rollins climbs up top and hits a nasty double-stomp through Ambrose’ chest.
Rollins begins to climb the ladder but Ambrose somehow frees himself and tips it over before knocking the champ outside of the ring. Ambrose calls for Dirty Deeds but Rollins avoids it and the two end up brawling into the crowd and through the arena.
Rollins gains the upper-hand and tries to run into the ring to get up the ladder, but Ambrose catches him and the two fight on the outside. Rollins gains the upper-hand and weddges a ladder between the apron and announce table before heading back in the ring to try climbing the ladder again. Ambrose catches him and as Rollins tries to counter, flips him over the ropes and onto the ladder.
Yeah, no that ladder bent in half on impact. Holy ouch.
Ambrose tries to take advantage and drags himself up the ladder one hop at a time, but the Champ stops him and again we’re outside. Ambrose clotheslines Rollins over the announce table and the two eventually get up and try and race over the table into the ring but neither can get past his opponent.
Rollins picks up Ambrose and tries to hit a Pedigree on the announce table, but Ambrose counters and hits Dirty Deeds! Ambrose again starts dragging himself up the ladder but Rollins cuts him off and smashes a TV monitor into his knee, knocking the Lunatic off the ladder. He hits Ambrose with a Pedigree and begins to climb the ladder, but somehow Ambrose manages to pull him off.
Now Rollins has snapped as he starts to take Ambrose apart on the outside. He slams Ambrose on a ladder before powerbombing him into the barricade. He picks up Ambrose and powerbombs him into another barricade before making a pile of chairs on top of a ladder and well…
Oh. My. God.
Somehow, that doesnt break Ambrose’ back, but he is out as Rollins crawls into the ring and begins climbing the ladder again. Miraculously, Ambrose somehow cuts Rollins off AGAIN and climbs up the ladder from the same side as the Champ. Both men start tugging on the belt trying to take it for themselves when they come crashing down off of the ladder.
During the fall, Rollins manages to pull the belt away from Ambrose and…
YOUR WINNER AND STILL WWE CHAMPION… SETH ROLLINS!
Rollins really went out there and did it on his own, winning an amazing match between himself and Ambrose, cementing the two as the top face/hell combo in the company and legitimizing Rollins title reign all at the same time. Poor Ambrose looks so distraught as Rollins celebrates with Triple H.
Amazing match.
The only issue here is that the Champ fought through a 40-minute ladder match… and Sheamus didn’t even TRY to cash-in? Come on now.
