To say Jason Pierre-Paul’s Independence Day didn’t go as planned would be an understatement. Pierre-Paul is still in the hospital 3 days after injuring his hand in a accident involving fireworks. Everyone has their fingers cross wishing the best for Pierre-Paul and according to Adam Scheftler of ESPN, the Giants officials have traveled to Florida to visit Pierre-Paul to assess the injury first hand but have been unable to see him.
It’s been reported that it’s very possible and likely that the pass rusher could start the season on the non-football injury or illness list. If this happens, Pierre-Paul wouldn’t be eligible play until Week 7, and likely wouldn’t be paid during his absence.
One weekend of fun could end up costing Pierre-Paul millions of dollars. The Giants recently pulled a $60 million longterm offer off the table which will pretty much force Pierre-Paul to sign and play under the $14.8 million franchise tag. Pierre-Paul has yet to be sign the tag and with the deadline of July 15 approaching and the uncertainties of his injury, it will be interesting to see if the Giants are even willing to honor the franchise tag.
