Bruce Bowen retired from the NBA in 2009, but it looks like you’ll be seeing his familiar jersey number on a new Spurs team member. LaMarcus Aldridge is due to be a new Spur, but there was one problem, his number was retired, but as luck would have it Bruce Bowen allowed the Spurs to “un-retire” the number.
“You want LaMarcus to feel part of the family,” Bowen told the San Antonio Express-News. “If I can have a hand in that, shoot, why not? I don’t play anymore.”
“I hope it helps (Aldridge) feel comfortable,” Bowen said. “If he’s comfortable, the sky’s the limit for him here. It’s one less thing he has to worry about.”
And this is what makes the Spurs such a special team. While Bowen is no longer “physically” apart of the team, allowing Aldridge to wear his number is as selfless as it gets. The Spurs continue to be the staple and standard for what a team looks like. Even after helping deliver three championships, Bowen continues to help his former team.
