Could LaMarcus Aldridge have been a Knick instead of a Spur? Carmelo Anthony seems to have thought so.
According to NBC Sports, Anthony spoke to media following USA basketball practice and spoke on LaMarcus, who is currently his teammate. During camp, Anthony learned that not only did the Knicks lose out on LaMarcus, but they lost him by asking him to play a position he isnt comfortable doing.
After recruiting LaMarcus Aldridge over the summer, Carmelo Anthony felt the Knicks had “a big chance” to land an All-Star running mate and one of the top free agents.
But the Knicks forward learned only recently, through a conversation with Aldridge at Team USA training camp, why a meeting never happened. The Knicks wanted Aldridge to play the unfamiliar position of center to free up minutes at power forward for rookie Kristaps Porzingis.
“I didn’t know that. When he told me that, I didn’t know that. I took my headband and threw it across. . . . I honestly didn’t know that,” Anthony said.
The site also notes that Anthony was smiling and joking about the headband. Adding LaMarcus to the Knick lineup wouldve possibly been the best move for them since… Melo? Anthony has been praising the signing of Porzingis, but would he have given that up in favor of Aldridge?
