A year ago today, Mike Brown was shot and killed by officer Darren Wilson, who was a member of the Ferguson police department.
To honor Brown, family and members of the community stood at the exact spot where he was shot and held a four minute and a half moment of silence, which represents the four and a half hours his body was left on the street.
The spot outside of the Canfield Green apartments was covered Sunday in flowers and stuffed animals, reminiscent of the memorial that grew there in the days after Brown was killed — days when sorrow and outrage overcame Ferguson.
As the day developed, protestors began to flood the streets and things took to very violent turn.
A young black man is in a critical and unstable condition after being shot by police in Ferguson on the edges of a demonstration marking the first anniversary of the fatal shooting of Michael Brown, which was once again dispersed by police firing teargas.
The shooting victim is 18-year-old Tyrone Harris, however, St. Louis County’s police chief Jon Belmar had an important message for the public during his press conference.
“We can’t afford to have this kind of violence,” said Jon Belmar, whose department has led the controversial police response to protests over Brown’s death. “There is a small group of people who are intent on making sure we don’t have peace.”
He then added this:
“They weren’t protesters; they were criminals,”
This is the latest on Harris’ current condition:
