‘Straight Outta Compton’ releases today in theaters. I’ve been on social media reading reviews for the movie and have become excited to go see the film for myself this weekend, that is until I read that movie theaters across the country are increasing security for this movie release.

Have we all missed the memo that the mass shootings that have happened at movie theaters have been by people of a Caucasian descent? Most people will stereotype that most of the people who will see the film will be THUGS, but all cultures grew up listening to NWA, people who love rap, and people who care about the hip hop culture.
I’m really baffled as to why security needs to be increased at a CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED movie release. What do they think people aka black people plan on doing?
This continues to show the racism and stereotypes in America against African Americans. A movie comes out about a rap group’s claim to fame and coming from harsh environments in the hood of Compton, California, and all of a sudden more security needs to be around. Where was that extra security when James Holmes killed 12 people and injured 70 in 2012? Where was all this extra security when John Russell Houser shot 11 people in a Lafayette movie theater JUST last month?
I’m not saying to boycott the movie or anything. The film has had great reviews and I think everyone should learn about the culture. It’s just really unfortunate that still, in 2015, being black is seen as a threat. So much of a threat that we can’t even enjoy a movie without extra eyes from security watching us.
