Looks like the once hot quarterback battle between Ryan Mallet and Brian Hoyer has ended, but Mallet does have a job.
Houston Texans Head Coach Bill O’Brien says Mallet is still the number 2 quarterback to enter this upcoming season. Though Mallet overslept yesterday causing him to miss practice, it has not changed anything.
O’Brien spoke on Mallet oversleeping causing him to miss practice.
“(The) situation with Ryan not being at practice (Thursday), that’s between Ryan and I,” O’Brien told reporters, via ProFootballTalk. “There are a lot things that I will explain to you and I realize that you have a job to do, I really do. I said that in the very first meeting with you this year. I have a lot of respect for you and your profession and what you’re trying to do with information and all those things. I get it. But some things are left within the team, and this is one of them.
With Arian Foster out for a while this season, some solid quarterback play will be needed to assist the beast that is J.J. Watt to help keep the Texans afloat.
So Brian Hoyer you have the job and it’s yours to lose.
If you ask me have Watt play quarterback, I’m sure the fans wouldn’t mind that.
