Diesel starred in the original “xXx” in 2002 as Xander Cage a thrill seeking sports enthusiast turned spy. The original movie may have been the beginning of the blending of extreme sports and action films, and was actually a fun movie. I thought Diesel was great in the film and the entire thing was a fun ride. Even the sequel, “xXx: State of the Union” starring Ice Cube, wasn’t bad. Definitely not as good or fun as the first, but not bad by any means. Diesel’s stock may never be as high as it right now with the success of the Fast and Furious movies the studios may give him free reign and a third xXx may be a big hit. The first film grossed more than $275 million off of a $70 million budget. The sequel with Ice Cube only managed north of $70 million worldwide but you can’t expect to exchange an action star like Vin Diesel with Ice Cube and get the same result, it just didn’t really work out the same. Shooting begins in December and I’ll be excited to see the final product.
