Floyd Mayweather has been claiming that he will retire after this 49th fight for years now, yet still people doubt him. Now as the day approaches Mayweather seems heart set on walking away from the sport and he has a good reason for doing so.
“Number 49 is my last fight,” said Mayweather. “No one is in my shoes. My health is more important. If you stick around anything too long, anything can happen. I’m not really worried about losing, but I want to have a sharp mind. You can make a lot of money, but you still want to be able to talk, walk, and have a sharp mind.”
When we reported that Mayweather was deciding between Mayfield & Berto for fight #49 people were also skeptical but he stuck to his word. It’s hard not to get the same feeling when he says he will retire.
It’s time to brace ourselves to lose the best fighter of a generation.
