Michael Ealy’s role in The Perfect Guy was powerful enough to disturb you at night.
Often when we go into movies, we have an idea of what the film is going to be about. From the title, you wouldn’t expect for The Perfect Guy to be a thriller. The way Michael Ealy was able to transform into the character of Carter will shock you and he deserves a round of applause for this role. Ealy caught up with BSO and spoke to us about the role. Take a look at what he had to say in regards to portraying a sociopath.
1) How did it feel to portray this character? Did you have to prep for it in anyway to play the character of Carter?
Yeah, yeah I did. I had to do a lot of research on what it is to be a sociopath, what it is to live with one, to date one. A lot of people are dating sociopaths and don’t even know it.2) Tell us about the scene in which you were under the bed. How did it feel to record that scene? It was a little bit disturbing and at the same time very technical. Obviously the way it comes on screen it’s pretty gross and disturbing. But you kind of know when you’re doing it like, “This is going to freak people out.” But the reality is that this has actually happened to people.3) We noticed also that you were an executive producer of the film. How much fun was it to give input in the producing aspect. It was the first time I was playing a villain and it was important for me to have some sort of creative say as to how I was going to portray the villain on screen. And being one of the executive producers, was helpful because it enabled me to be much more involved in this project. To this day, I’m much more passionate of this project than others because I was much more involved in it’s development stage and that was key.4) Do you think the character of Carter is more of a stalker or a bad guy?I don’t know if there’s much of a difference. Here’s the thing. By me calling him a bad guy, that means I’m judging him. And I can’t play a character if I’m judging him. I have to pretty much embrace everything about that person in order to play the, correctly. So I won’t call him a bad guy. He has some pretty disturbing ways. If you want to call him the villain, call him the villain but in his mind, he feels like he’s doing the right thing.5) Are there any new upcoming projects that you want to share with the audience?Absolutley. Coming in January, I have this show on ABC coming out called Secrets and Lies. It’s season 2 of this show and I’m going to be starring in it. You have the incomparable Juliette Lewis as the cop from the first season. It’s a whole new case, whole new cast. It’s going to be a much more emotionally charged season this year.
Make sure to head on to the theaters for this thriller. The Perfect Guy is out in theaters on September 11, 2015.
