Tony Romo might be the most talk about quarterback in the NFL. His individual stats show that he should be viewed as an elite quarterback despite his poor playoff record. Playing for the Dallas Cowboys always bring extra heat because of the “American’s Team” label. Everything Romo does is under a spot light but how does owner and GM Jerry Jones feel about his franchise player? Who would he rather have in the saddle over Tony Romo? Jones was a guest on 105.3 The Fans’s G-Bag Nation show [KRLD-FM] answering these two questions plus more.
“Tony is really good. I’ve said this and I want to restate it, if he should go through a career with the Cowboys and not have knocked on the door one time, I’m going to go as far as to say won a Super Bowl, it would be my biggest disappointment having owned this team. He is a quarterback that can win Super Bowls. He’s a franchise quarterback. I really would not, (replace him this another quarterback) for what we got ahead of us, he’s who I want as opposed to a choice throughout the league.”
Jones didn’t stop there, adding more praises for Tony Romo.
“It’s not hyperbole, either, I really mean it. He has got the skills and his ability to read defenses, his ability to read them impromptu, plus be able to obviously make some plays that aren’t there. All of those things, plus his experience now, which we’re seeing is expansive over these last two or three seasons. It’s unfortunate that he’s had that injury season, or injury seasons, really, over the last five or six years. But still, we’re getting the best of him now, and the best of him is probably, in my mind, the best there is.”
Jerry does makes a few solid points. I watched most of the Cowboys Week 1 matchup against the Giants. Romo looked like a different player. He was calling out defenses presnap more than Peyton Manning. The offensive line protected him well and the defense was solid. Romo is getting a little long in the tooth but I feel he still has a strong 3-4 season to try to lead Jerry Jones and his Dallas Cowboys to the promise land.
