All it took was one game for Austin Rivers to get in trouble into this season, the Clippers guard is being investigated by the NBA after a seat cushion he threw in the 4th quarter against the Sacramento Kings hit a fan. There is no video evidence yet of the incident but witnesses describe what most would be considered an accident, but dumb move on Rivers part.
Rivers for a reason not known to us at the moment threw the seat cushion and it struck a female fan in the eye. If you have ever been to an NBA game, you know the seat cushions aren’t small. The fan was said to be experiencing optical discomfort, which is a fancy way of saying she was probably experiencing some blurred vision. Just imagine being poked in the eye, but with something 5x bigger than your hand. She was in some discomfort, but no word on if she went to the hospital or received any medical treatment on the scene. Depending on the type of person she is a lawsuit could be coming.
At this point it seems that it is more what kind of discipline he will get than if he will be disciplined at all as. USA Today reports the league is looking into it.
Rivers will be lucky if he doesn’t face any additional charges from the fan and as a player who is just finding his niche in the league, he should be focusing on making the Clippers’ second unit gel and not making the news for anything other than his play court.
