As it often does when big coaching jobs open up, the rumors start flying of the million different coaches that are interested in the job.
In this particular case Penn State head coach James Franklin is being linked to the Miami head coaching vacancy, and he isn’t very happy about it.
Here are some quotes on how Franklin feels about the speculation from ESPN:
“First of all, let me say this,” Franklin said, regarding his name as a candidate. “I don’t like it. I don’t like it. I think it causes a distraction for our team; I think it’s a distraction for Penn State, and I have no idea where it’s coming from whatsoever.
“My family has sacrificed. I’ve worked my ass off to get to Penn State, to get here, and this is where I want to be. We got a lot of work to do on the field. We got a lot of work to do off the field in every aspect, but this is where I want to be.”
“Stuff like that, I guess some people can look at as a compliment,” he said. “I don’t. My focus is 100 percent on Penn State.”
It is easy to see why Franklin’s name would come up for a position like Miami, as he was a very hot name prior to him accepting the position at Penn State.
Franklin is a young, energetic coach who gets after it on the recruiting trail and that is exactly what Miami needs right now. As things sit, Penn State is a much more attractive job than Miami, so I don’t think Franklin will be going anywhere anytime soon.
There will be plenty of more names linked to the Miami job, we are just getting started with the speculation.
