Who doesn’t get excited about the NFL and fantasy football? Its a chance for friends and colleagues alike to get together all NFL season long and fight for Aaron Rodgers as their starting QB, but it seems that some players think fans take it too seriously, I mean, when money is on the line, you might send a tweet to Andrew Luck letting him know that interception put you 10 points behind, but its all in fun… right? Well, Jermaine Kearse of the Seahawks doesn’t like how fantasy football is getting to be more important than the actual sport.
“I think it’s starting, kind of, to be more about fantasy football than, like, football, … All you hear about is, ‘Oh, this guy got me this amount of points.’ I was talking to a teammate and he made a really good point: It also gives people just reasons to watch games they really wouldn’t watch. But I think it’s all about fantasy football for fans. Or that’s where I think it’s heading.”
Has fantasy football become more of a highlight for fans than the game? Kearse has a point. On Sundays, commercials are filled “Fan Duel” and “Draft Kings” showing you how much people have won and only watching the games on account of who they have drafted. There are even shows now dedicated to fantasy football and who would benefit you most in your league. It all does seem like players are only as great as their points.
So who are fans more loyal to these days? Are you only watching football to win your league?
