Diversity is important to have and its great to see that the MLB wants to have that apart of the league.
If you look around where you work, chances are, you’ll find some diversity but there is still a lot of work left to done. Diversity creates comfortable work settings and most of all, makes people feel welcome when they see others that resemble them there.
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred spoke at Day 2 of the 4th Annual Sports Diversity and Inclusion Symposium. He stressed the importance of having diversity be apart of the league as well as in all sports. During his segment, he also mentioned that he is going to Mexico to attempt to bring more diversity and welcome Mexican baseball players to the league.
The first panel included heads from all sports and they too share the same sentiment: diversity is important because if it doesn’t exist, the sport may die out in the near future.
During the press conference, BSO got the chance to ask the commissioner what he expects to gain from his trip to Mexico. Here’s what he said:
I think that our trip to Mexico is an opportunity to develop stronger relationships with the professional leagues in Mexico. It’s an important part of baseball in North America and we hope to develop a better line of communication which ultimately, we hope, will lead to a better flow of talent out of Mexico into the big leagues. We feel that it’s important to our overall business objective. We see Mexico as an important international market for Major League Baseball.
This is diversity at work and it would be wonderful to see more Mexican players and even other players from other parts of Latin America in the league.
