It’s really hard d to tell who is telling that truth now-a-days. With so many people being over consumed by money, they will do and say anything to make a dollar. According to several MLB umpires, former player Lenny Dykstra is doing just that.
Lenny Dykstra claims that he blackmailed MLB umpires during his playing days to get favorable calls. Dykstra stopped by “The Herd” telling his story about how he spent $500k on private investigators to spy and get dirt on umps and using that as leverage to get calls.
Now umps are speaking up and are saying Dykstra is full of lies.
— Greg Bonin (MLB umpire 1984-2001)
“He’s smoking something. He’s full of shit. He always was, but now more than ever. I’ve never heard anything like that from an umpire. Never. I’ve heard lots of funny stuff, but that’s got to be the funniest. Those drugs must have really messed his head up.”
— Jerry Layne (MLB umpire 1989-present)
“Lenny Dykstra is out of his mind. If you go back and look at every Lenny Dykstra at-bat something like that will stick out like a sore thumb. Think about it, how many times does a specific umpire come across Lenny Dykstra at the plate in a season? Do the math to it.”
— Larry Barnett (MLB umpire 1969-1999)
“It’s the stupidest thing I’ve heard. He should’ve save the money, he probably could’ve use it now. I was in professional baseball for a long time I never heard something so stupid. It’s ludicrous.”
They all have valid points. The one that stands outs the most is Dykstra needing money. Maybe he is just trying to promote his book to grab a few coins.
