Miami Heat Dwayne Wade came in as a promising rookie who blossomed into one of the best shooting guards in recent memory.
Wade is now passing down his knowledge and assisting another promising rookie in the 10th pick of the 2015 NBA Draft Justice Winslow.
“Flash” has been showing Winslow post moves and trying to give him a plethora of moves to use.
Jason Lieser of the Palm Beach Post spoke with Winslow on the mentoring.
“I have a couple and I’m comfortable with those, but I’m trying to build off that and trying to perfect some other ones,” Winslow said. “I’m trying to learn and expand my game down there.”
Wade who won his first ring under the mentorship of Pat Riley and Shaquille O’Neal, wants to get Winslow developing his game sooner than later.
“As his career develops, hopefully he’s able to do multiple things on the floor, but right now there’s gonna be certain things (Erik Spoelstra) wants him to do, and some of those things I’m good at,” Wade said. “I’m just passing down knowledge to someone who I think could be good at things that I have strengths at. It’s gonna take a while, but if he figures it out at 21, he’s ahead of the curve. I figured it out at like 27.”
“All of us are where we’re at because someone before us helped us. They helped by letting us sit there and watch film with them or having conversations with them. If he’s a student of it and he really wants to know, I’m a pretty decent teacher in certain areas.”
The mentorship for Wade will be immensely important for Winslow, will be counted on as a versatile defender and playmaker for the Heat’s second unit.
The former Duke Blue Devil will be listening to every word of advice that Wade drops.
