We’ll see if CNN budged on the topic?
According to the Washington Post, Jameis Winston has threatened CNN with a lawsuit over their planned airing of a documentary centered around his rape case.
On Sunday, CNN is scheduled to air the documentary The Hunting Ground, which explores the rape culture going on across college campuses — with a keen focus on the rape accusation made against the Buccaneers quarterback while he was at Florida State.
Winston’s lawyer is threatening a lawsuit unless CNN pulls the film from its schedule.
The Hollywood Reporter obtained a letter from Winston’s lawyer, John Boudet, to Jeff Zucker, president of CNN Worldwide and David Vigilante, senior vice president, legal for CNN.
“We are writing to formally caution CNN that the portions of the film ‘The Hunting Ground’ pertaining to Mr. Winston are false and defamatory to Mr. Winston,” the letter begins. “We urge CNN to reconsider the reckless decision to proceed with the broadcast of this deeply-flawed documentary in the face of the overwhelming evidence the film’s producers consciously and intentionally failed to adhere to any accepted journalistic standards.”
Winston, the first overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, was accused of rape in December 2012 while with the Florida State Seminoles. His accuser, Erica Kinsman, broke her silence about the incident in this film.
Erica Kinsman, the woman who accused Winston of rape, proclaims to tell her side of the story in the new documentary.
FSU has reportedly asked CNN to pull the feature as well.
