Everything is going perfectly fine in Warriors land.
The defending champions are 16-0, Steph Curry is on pace to win consecutive MVP awards and they play the 7-8 Suns tonight, which should be another victory.
However, team executive board member, Jerry West, has something to get off his chest.
“We have two of the top-10 players in the league,” West told KNBR on Wednesday, knowing he didn’t need to explain Curry. “Draymond Green is the second one. He’s the most underrated player in the NBA, period. There are very few players I think anyone in our organization would trade for him. He’s just a remarkable player.
“If he’s not a top-10 player in this league, I don’t know who is.”
Really, Jerry?
Now, this is no slight against Green because I believe he’s very efficient and one of the best all-around players in the game, but the fact of the matter is, he became a started 13 months ago and he hasn’t made the all-star team once.
Will he make the all-star team this year?
Green is averaging 12.7 points per game on 48 percent shooting to go along with 7.8 rebounds and 6.6 assists.
While those are great numbers across the board, it’ll be hard to justify someone making the all-star team averaging less than 13 points per game. It’s happened multiple times in NBA history, but it doesn’t happen very often.
Also, when you have guys like Blake Griffin, LaMarcus Aldridge and Dirk Nowitzki in the west, it’ll be difficult for him to get in.
Nonetheless, if Green is able to get his point total near the 16-18 range on a consistent basis for the next few years, then maybe we can revisit this top ten discussion, but for now, it’s just way too early.
Here’s my top 10 list:
1. LeBron James
2. Stephen Curry
3. Kevin Durant
4. Anthony Davis
5. Blake Griffin
6. Russell Westbrook
7. Chris Paul
8. James Harden
9. Paul George
10. LaMarcus Aldridge
