Jon Jones posted his shirtless IG pictures earlier and as a caption he proclaimed that he’d make his return at UFC 198, which is tentatively scheduled for Madison Square Garden.
What is unknown is Jon Jones’ opponent for that fight. Daniel Cormier has publicly said that he won’t fight Jon Jones in his backyard for the title and that the fight could go down at UFC 200 in Las Vegas.
A few weeks back Jon Jones poked fun at the fact that Cormier was so against fighting in NYC.
Jones still seems adamant about being the first fighter to headline a UFC event in New York City, so we may see him take a tune-up fight and try to challenge Cormier on 10 weeks rest. With the division be top-heavy, it’ll be tough to give Jones an “easy” fight for that date but if he is able to escape without much damage then the turn around shouldn’t be difficult for a fighter coming off of a year and a half absence.
If the fight gets approved for Madison Square Garden it’ll be tough for DC to turn down the fight and the money, which means UFC fans will finally get the rematch they’ve been waiting over a year to see.
