Timothy Bradley may be coming off of one of the best performances of his career, a TKO victory over Brandon Rios, but taking aim at the recently “retired” Floyd Mayweather seems like a stretch.
Bradley’s trainer, Teddy Atlas, named Mayweather as his choice for Bradley’s next opponent and he seems to think that the two of them can solve the puzzel that is Mayweather.
“Hey, maybe somebody named, I don’t know if everybody has forgot his name already – Mayweather – I don’t know if anyone remembers his name because he has been out of the limelight for a while. Maybe everyone forgot him. Maybe someone like Mayweather wants to come back for number 50 and wants to match intelligence with us. That would be interesting, if he came back to match wits with us. Give us a chance to come up with a game plan to give him a loss. I don’t know, again that is in the goods hands of Monica (Bradley’s wife) who has done a great job and in the hands of Bob Arum who I think has been the best promoter of the past 50 years to be quite honest. Give him his due,” said Atlas.
Mayweather hasn’t talked about coming back for fight #50 and it seems unlikely that Floyd would choose Bradley as his opponent if he returned. Bradley isn’t the biggest draw in the boxing world and it handicaps his ability to not only land a Mayweather fight but a few other ones as well.
It may be best for Bradley & Atlas to focus on a different title holder at 147 lbs, possibly Kell Brook, instead of shooting for the stars and requesting the Mayweather fight.
