I’ve spent a lot of time watching the Cavs this season and although I’m convinced they are the best team in the east, they just don’t seem to be championship caliber. The Cavs have 13 wins, more than any other team in the east, but they seem to be missing something. The team is too inconsistent on the defensive side of the ball and could use another playmaker on the floor. That playmaker could be returning to the lineup soon.
Cavs ' Kyrie Irving says practice "has been great." Been playing some 4-on-4, "getting up and down floor with the guys."

Kyrie has made a huge step in recovering from a broken kneecap by returning to practice. What he brings to the court could be exactly what the Cavs need. Without a doubt, the Warriors are playing lights out, they are the best team in the NBA. Last year they met the short-handed Cavs in the finals and were later crowned NBA champs but how would things have been different if Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving were healthy and should the Cavs rest him til All-Star Break?
Although we can’t predict who will be healthy at season’s end, if both teams return to the finals, the Cavs odds would be much greater this time around. Kyrie has to ability to blow past defenders, he can knock down three pointers and might be able to slow Steph Curry down with his athletic ability. Without a doubt he will take some of the load off of LeBron and open up some shots for Kevin Love, JR Smith and sharp shooter James Jones.
The Cavs should be cautious and take things slow with Kyrie because he has become almost as injury prone as Derrick Rose. I would definitely monitor his minutes and work him back into the lineup extremely slow. It’s more important to have Kyrie healthy for the playoffs than to have him playing now.
There is no set timetable for Kyrie’s return date but he’s clearly a lot closer than some people expected.
