Man Jimbo Fisher got us with the “okey doke.”
I should have known better — I mean every coach says they have the best job in the world — while secretly negotiating others.
Amid the Florida State head coach assuring the media that he had no interest in another job — aka I have the best job in the world — Tallahassee.com is reporting that Fisher entered into negotiations with LSU brass, but because of the huge financial demands brought on by Miles’ buyout and Fisher’s new deal, an agreement could not be reached.
Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher was in negotiations to become the next head coach at LSU before money and an outpouring of support caused the Tigers to retain Les Miles, according to a Thursday report from The (Baton Rouge, La.) Advocate.
Representatives for Fisher and LSU were in negotiations “as late as last week” to secure a deal for the sixth-year Seminoles coach to leave for a school he spent seven seasons as an assistant.
The money needed to finish the deal — more than $30 million to buyout contracts, and a new deal for Fisher and his assistants — was ultimately the biggest reason LSU could not move forward with the negotiations, according to the report.
Miles had a $15 million buyout clause in his contract, and Fisher is already the fifth highest paid coach in the country at $5 million in 2015. Fisher also has a $5 million buyout of his current contract before Dec. 31, 2016.
After FSU’s victory over Florida last Saturday, Fisher called those rumors “clutter” and refused to even discuss LSU.
