After leading North Carolina to the ACC championship and a 11-1 record, head coach Larry Fedora is discussing a contract extension that will keep him in Chapel Hill long term.
The Tar Heels are set to play Clemson in the ACC championship game and have a chance to spoil their national title chances.
Here are the details from Inside Carolina:
North Carolina is currently in contract extension negotiations with head football coach Larry Fedora, according to a source familiar with the proceedings.
“They are in discussions,” the source told InsideCarolina.com on Wednesday. “They want it to be a workable deal. They want him here for the long term.”
UNC is intent on elevating Fedora’s salary, as well as his assistant coaches’ pay, to that of a market-relevant rate, according to the source.
“I do think that we lag the market in a lot of our salaries and we’re going to continue to try to compensate people to get them to stay,” UNC athletic director Bubba Cunningham said in a recent interview with IC.
Seven current ACC head coaches make more than $2.5 million per year, led by Jimbo Fisher’s $5.1 million salary at Florida State.
After turning around things at Southern Miss, Fedora has done another great job at North Carolina and is about to earn himself a nice pay day.
If he can knock off Clemson on Saturday, he may be able to talk some extra money into the deal.
