After firing head coach Ruffin McNeill, ECU is scrambling to interview prospective candidates to replace him.
I thought it was strange when they opted to abruptly fire McNeill, and now it is getting stranger as it is being reported by Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman that former Michigan head coach Brady Hoke has interviewed for the position.
James Madison head coach Everett Withers, former Michigan head coach Brady Hoke and former Va. Tech assistant Shane Beamer have all interviewed for the Pirates head coaching vacancy, according to sources, and former Auburn head man Gene Chizik, the UNC defensive coordinator, is also believed to be someone ECU is interested in. Word is there may be two other candidates in consideration and that the school is hoping to have its new coach in place by Sunday.
The firing of Ruffin McNeill felt wrong in a lot of ways, and I expected ECU to have a much better lists of coaches in line if they suddenly decided to go in another direction.
Brady Hoke is unemployed for a reason these days, and while he had some success prior to Michigan, I’m not sure he would be one of my primary candidates.
