After what was probably the best Monday Night Raw this decade last week, WWE had a ton of pressure to deliver again with this week’s Slammy Awards. Were they able to deliver? Let’s take a look at what went down.
Reigns One-Ups the Authority, Again
We kick things off with Stephanie McMahon coming out and talking about the Slammy Awards and how she won’t let what Roman Reigns did last week ruin her mood and yada yada yada. She continues to rant about how McMahon’s don’t wallow in self-pity like the rest of us before Reigns finally comes out.
The new WWE Champ makes his way into the ring and soaks in the cheers from the WWE Universe before talking about celebrating tonight. Reigns says he can’t help but feel like there’s a set-up or Steph is trying to make him sweat but Reigns says he doesn’t sweat Steph, Vince or Triple H.
He takes a couple of more shots at Trip before Steph goes into full-on spoiled brat mode and demands Reigns leave the ring. Reigns just laughs and tells Steph that she sounds like a kid which just pisses her off more. Despite the crowd wanting him to stay, Reigns says he’ll leave, but first he asks the crowd if they really want to see Steph pissed. The Champ then turns his back to her which apparently drives McMahon insane as she loses it and demands that he now stay in the ring.
Reigns decides to just exit through the crowd, taking selfies along the way as Stephanie loses it in the ring and announces the Usos vs. The New Day in a handicap match. This doesn’t bug Reigns so she announces Dean Ambrose vs. Sheamus in a steel cage, which gets Reigns to turn around and smile before leaving.
Steph finishes things off by yelling that there will be hell to pay for everyone tonight.
McMahon comes out later in the night to present the Superstar of the Year award. Pretty much everyone is nominated for this thing and we finally get to hear the winner…. SETH ROLLINS!
Pour one out for the former Champ, we miss you de-HOLY CRAP ROLLINS IS HERE TO ACCEPT THE AWARD!!!
Rollins comes out on crutches with gives me all the sads and is mostly cheered by the WWE Universe. He says that he wants to thank everyone but they didn’t have a choice before listing everything he’s done as proof.
Rollins then starts to talk about his knee injury and gets pretty emotional.
DAMN YOU KNEE INJURIES!
Rollins says he’ll be back in 2016 to take what belongs to him, the WWE World Heavyweight title.
The New Day comes out and says that they are going to spoil Star Wars for everyone because they didn’t win Tag Team of the year, but change their mind since Kofi hasn’t seen the movie. They then put a good beating on the Usos but somehow lost the 3-on-2 handicap match because Xavier Woods got rolled up.
Main event time and as the cage lowers around Ambrose and Sheamus we see backstage that the League of Nations has beaten the hell out of the Usos. Before the match can even start the League of Nations comes out and beats the hell out of Ambrose, finishing with a Brogue Kick from Sheamus.
Despite this, Ambrose put up one hell of a fight in an entertaining slobber-knocker of a match. These guys hit hard and hit often.
The League of Nations definitely got involved more than a few times before Reigns comes out to help his brother out. Reigns tosses a chair into the ring and it lands perfectly open, which should tell you everything you need to know about how on fire Roman Reigns is right now.
Our finish sees Ambrose and Sheamus battle on top of the cage before Sheamus knocks Ambrose off which leads to the Lunatic picking up the win.
Sheamus drops down from the page and gets murderized by a Reigns spear.
We close the show with Stephanie McMahon losing it and slapping the hell out of Tom Phillips because McMahon’s can abuse their employees damn it.
Angry Steph is the funnest, isn’t she?
Other Results –
Owens & Ziggler Kick Things Into High-Gear – The first Slammy of the night goes to your Breakout Star of the Year… Neville?! OVER KEVIN OWENS?! Okay we’re one award in and this already sucks.
Luckily, Owens comes out and cuts of Neville’s speech before ripping into the WWE Universe for not picking him. Dolph Ziggler is standing off to the side after presenting the award and Owens takes a shot at him calling him a has-been which apparently is a big no-no. A brawl breaks out and guess what? OWENS-ZIGGLER LATER TONIGHT!
The match itself was pretty good because these guys are too talented not to have a good match together, and it ends with KO Pop-Up Power Bombing Ziggler to death.
RIP Dolph.
Somebody Save the Wyatts – We start off with a Bray Wyatt vs. Kane match that quickly turns into the Wyatts beating the hell out of Kane. The Dudleyz and Tommy Dreamer are apparently still a thing because they make a save and YUP YOU GUESSED IT, 8-MAN TAG!
Quick match that ends when Luke Harper takes off D-Von’s head for the win. Seriously, can we please find a good feud for the Wyatt’s?!
Rusev Crushes Neville – Pretty good match between Neville and Rusev here. Neville is in desperate need of a good feud and him and Rusev had surprisingly good chemistry. Our finish has Neville miss a top rope move and land right into a huge kick from Rusev. The Accolade is locked in to finish things off.
After, Neville eats a Brogue Kick from Sheamus.
Slammy Award Winners – R-Truth for LOL Moment of the Year, Kalisto for OMG Moment of the Year because SALIDA DEL SOL OFF LADDER.
Hero in All of Us Award goes to John Cena because obviously. Speaking of Cena, HE’S BACK NEXT WEEK PEOPLE. Sting wins Surprise Return of the Year. Nikki Bella wins Diva of the Year… but not before R-Truth pulls a Steve Harvey and announces Paige as the winner first.
The Rock and Ronda Rousey win the This is Awesome Moment of the Year because promo. Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker at Hell in a Cell wins Match of the Year even though that wasn’t even the best match Brock Lesnar was in this year. My vote would have been Brock/Rollins/Cena at the Rumble but what do I know.
Del Rio-Swagger, part 46 – Oh hey, Alberto Del Rio beat Jack Swagger in the exact same match we’ve seen literally 46 times since last month. After Swagger eats a Brogue Kick for good measure.
Becky Lynch Keeps Rolling – Becky Lynch picked up a win over Brie Bella in a match that saw Lynch take most of the punishment before locking in the Disarmer to make Brie tap out.
