Andy Reid has been criticized for his clock management during the Chiefs 27-20 loss in the AFC Divisional game against the New England Patriots. The Criticism is pretty much well needed as the Chiefs took more than five minutes before scoring a touchdown to bring them within one score before it was too late.
Andy Reid feels that he made the right decision when he was asked during an interview with KCSP-AM: “I thought we handled it right,” Reid said. “You give us a minute on the clock and three timeouts, we feel like we can move the ball pretty good.”
Even though the chiefs had three timeouts,Lets be serious recovering an onside kick doesn’t happen often, so why would you put your odds on making that play? Its understood that you should keep the ball out of Brady’s hands as much as possible but the odds of recovering an onside kick is way less than playing defense for a stop, for a chance to get the ball back.
Reid also expressed he wanted to run the best plays possible. “At that point it really didn’t matter to me. I wanted to make sure we were calling the best plays,” Reid said.
Chiefs fans are probably still hurt over this terrible decision with clock managements as they came a touchdown away from tying the game and maybe defeating the defending Super Bowl championship. Nobody expected the Chiefs to win but it doesn’t help to think about what if Reid handle the clock better what would had been the outcome?
