Well, this is a little awkward.
It feels like a century ago when the Cleveland Cavaliers selected Anthony Bennett with the number one overall pick. However, it’s only been three years.
The former UNLV product has already been on three teams and he’s currently playing for the Raptors D-League team.
In this year’s draft, everyone and their mama has LSU freshmen stud Ben Simmons going number one, but Bennett has a message for the Australian.
“It’s not just about being in the first round it’s about being in a team that fits you,” Bennett said. “You don’t really have any say about where you go and it is pretty much all determined in the predraft, they just make the hard decisions a few hours before.”
I see where Bennett is gong with this, but typically, if you’re a true number one pick caliber player, it doesn’t matter what team you go to.
In Simmons case, I don’t think it’ll matter because he’s simply one of those rare talents you see once every generation.
Simmons is currently averaging 20.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game.
