The Carolina Panthers are preparing for what looks to be a down to the wire conference championship game against the Arizona Cardinals If anybody in the Panthers locker room is nervous or have butterflies it isn’t Cam Newton.
“I don’t get nervous,” Newton said Wednesday during an interview, per ESPN. “I’ve been playing football for too long for me to get nervous. I used to dream of being in this type of position.”
Cam Newton resume does speaks for itself, when it comes to big games as he lead the Auburn Tigers to an undefeated season and championship in 2010. And most importantly this Sunday will make it Newton fifth playoff start, while Cardinals QB Carson Palmer just got his first playoff win last week in a tough overtime win over the Green Bay Packers.
Coach Ron Rivera expressed that this is nothing bout a step forward for Newton. “As far as college football is concerned he’s been on the biggest stage of them all,” Rivera said. “This is just another step for him.”
Newton is hungry for a chance to go to his First Superbowl, as he has to take care of business and not letup like previously against the Seattle Seahawks as their were up 31-0 at halftime and let the Seahawks scored 24 unanswered points as the Panthers still pulled out the win.
But Newton feels this moment was meant for him. “This is why you play football games,” Newton. “I idolized the quarterbacks that would be in these positions and dream like, ‘Man, I hope, I pray I get an opportunity to do it.'” “People will be talking about the 2015 Panthers for years to come,” Newton said, “and shame on us if we don’t capitalize on it.”
