The 49ers hired former Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly Thursday. Owner Jed York kept the decision to make Kelly the coach under the radar as everyone found out via internet including quarterback Colin Kaepernick. According to the San Jose Mercury News, there was no contact with Kaepernick and the organization about the new hire. Kaepernick who is coming off a bad year as his statistics went down as his team started off 2-6, as he battled with injuries, which cause him to get benched in November and eventually being placed on IR. Most people speculated that this would be the end of Kap and the Niners.
Is this a sign that his future in the NFL could be somewhere else? According to sources Kaepernick is unsure to feel about the decision with hiring Kelly because he doesn’t have confirmation that Kelly has him in his future plans. Former 49er Steve Young said if anybody can resurrect Colin Kaepernick its Chip Kelly. “If somebody’s going to resurrect Colin Kaepernick, it is going to be Chip Kelly,” former 49ers quarterback Steve Young said on ESPN’s NFL Live.
Kaepernick has been in Colorado for the last two weeks having physical therapy done on his left shoulder, sources close to Kap says he is recovering well from all injuries. Kelly would have Blaine Gabbert as well as the team finished 3-5 with him as the starter, it could be some QB competition if the Niners go on to keeps Kaepernick for the future. Will Chip try to pull another cleaning house move like he did in Philadelphia? We would have to see his reaction when answers question about Kaepernick future when he holds his introductory press conference sometime this week.
