I mean he’s Chicago’s finest — what else did you expect D Rose to say?
With Derrick Rose set to be a free agent in 2017 — and Jimmy Butler now the Bulls main-man — there have been discussions about Rose’s future in Chicago — and where he fits going forward.
During a Q&A with ESPN’s Nick Friedell — Rose made it clear he wants to retire a Bull.
Friedell: You told me a long time ago you never wanted to play anywhere else. Is that still true?
Rose: That’s still true. Still true. Just having my son [P.J.], I’m doing all this because of my son now, you know? Just wanting to be around him every day, having him come up here, shoot with me or see me shooting til he’s able to become a ball boy. Little things like that I think about long term. Just trying to get him groomed, trying to get him used to being in the environment.
Friedell: You want to retire here still.
Rose: For sure, for sure.
Both Joakim Noah and Pau Gasol will be free agents this summer — while money, fit and his relationship with Butler will likely determine Rose’s future next summer.
At $20 million this season and $21 million next season — while given his injury history — there’s no trade market for Rose.
Rose is averaging 14.9 points, 4.9 assist and 3.3 steals per game this season.
