18-year-old Anthony Bauswell claims he was not allowed to enlist into the Marines due to his prominent Confederate flag tattoo on his rib cage.
According to Arkansasmatters.com Bauswell made the following statements:
“As soon as I said rebel flag on my ribs, he says DQ, just automatically, DQ.”
“I felt pretty low. My own government wasn’t going to let me serve my country because of the ink on my skin.”
“I definitely don’t want it to be seen as racism, which is 99% of the reason I got southern pride on it.”
The official Marine Corp policy forbids offensive tattoos, so I am not surprised he was denied entry.
This young man has every right to put Confederate flag tattoos on his body, but he must also deal with the consequences of such a short-sighted decision.
