You can believe that Tom Brady is looking at film of the Denver Broncos defense as he gets ready to compete for a chance to advance to back to back super bowls. As Brady is going over strategy with his offensive coaching staff to make sure his guys is ready for the number one overall defense in the league, Brady also get a scouting report from a dishwasher every week. A dishwasher?
Jay Flannelly who is a dishwasher at two restaurants in Ann Arbor,Mich, is a friend of Brady and former student assistant for the University of Michigan back when Brady was playing backup for the school.
According to Micheal Rosenberg from SI Flannelly watches all-22 tape of Patriots upcoming opponents to give Brady tips on how to prepare for the team’s defense.
The dish-washer tells the four-time Super Bowl champion which cornerback is vulnerable to double-moves, what kind of blitzes the coordinator prefers, or how a team’s defensive front is usually aligned. He advises Brady that the defense’s “concepts are pretty consistent” and that a hobbling defensive player “is not right and can be handled.”
Brady And Flannelly have been friends for 20 years, this is pretty awesome that Brady has scouts even outside the organization especially if it’s from your best friend.
We all know Brady doesn’t need the extra help, but when Flannelly was asked why he still gives Brady the report years down the road his response was pretty simple: “If I didn’t send it to him, he would get mad,” Flannelly said.
Brady must use those reports to some extent if he gets upsets that he missed a week, but then again Brady doesn’t let-up in the game of football as his career speaks for itself.
