Jordy Nelson grew up not far from where I did, close enough so I know kids named after the Kansas State star. This story sounds eerie similar to experiences I had growing up. Nelson talked about how he has known his wife since kindergarten; they lived close to each other, out in the country, in Kansas and by default that is your best friend. Or in this case, eventual wife. Nelson was on the Dan Le Batard Show to discuss the history between the two lovers. CBS Sports had the quote:
Le Batard: OK. I was under the impression she was your very first girlfriend, sixth grade.
Nelson: Where are you getting this information? … Well, yeah, we dated and she dumped me. Why I went back I don’t know. I guess it’s part of the story.
Le Batard: Were you trying to lie to us, Nelson??? She dumped you where — give us the details of when and where.
Nelson: It was actually 7th grade. At the end of the school year, she had an incredible reason why, it was the end of the school year and summertime and apparently she didn’t want to be around me. She didn’t want to be tied down to one guy in seventh grade in the summer.
I remember that conversation my best friend and I had when she had the same thought. She ”wanted to be young” whatever that means. Well now I know what that means. But all’s well that ends well, the two are, as far as I know, happily married.
