While the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs have the two best records in the league, everybody seems to forget about the Oklahoma City Thunder as they currently hold the 3rd best record in league.
As the Thunder continues to be slept on, former MVP Kevin Durant tells Michael Lee from Yahoo Sports, that he believes his team is not too far behind from the two teams everybody picking to come out of the western conference.
I’m not saying that they’re necessarily light years better than us,” Durant told Yahoo Sports. “Those other teams are playing at a crazy, crazy level, winning a lot of games. They’ve won more games than we did. That’s the difference.”
The Thunder have had trouble getting back to the NBA Finals since they lost to Lebron James and the Miami Heat in 2012. The Thunder once seem promising to win an NBA title, but the last three years they have had to battle with injures as Durant states that people just want to look for something new, as they struggled to get back to the finals:
“This world loves anything new,” Durant told Yahoo. “We’ve been here for so long. But we haven’t won a title. That’s the thing. Everybody loves the new guy, the new team. We’ve just been consistent. We’ve had some tough years, injury-wise. Other than that, we’ve always been here. We’re always considered one of the top teams in the league and we’re always going to continue to work like we’re one of the top teams in the league and strive for that greatness.”
You can bet that Durant has a little chip on his shoulder as he tries to prove the doubters wrong and achieve his first title this season.
