The Cowboys always seem to one step from contending and one step from rebuilding. After an injury filled year that tested the wills of Cowboys fans around the nation, they have the 4th overall pick in this years NFL Draft. With the age of Tony Romo rising it only makes sense for the team to consider drafting his successor, but is it the right move? Todd Archer had the quote from Romo:
“We’re going to evaluate everybody and the organization is going to look at who to take and they’re going to take the best player. If the best player there is a quarterback, then that’s what our team needs. Our team needs good players.”
The Cowboys have a few directions they could go with the 4th pick. Defensive line, linebacker, or bolster the secondary. Before this year, the Cowboys were considered Super Bowl contenders and that shouldn’t change going into next year. Obviously, health is the main concern, but since we are playing football, injuries are going to happen. The best way for the Cowboys to prepare for that is not drafting a quarterback in the top 5, but looking to free agency to fill their need. They also have the flexibility to trade down and spread out the talent.
