The Wizards didn’t extend Bradley Beal’s rookie contract because for cap space purpose they want to make a run at Kevin Durant this summer but the health of the guard played also a role in that decision.
Bradley is set to return to action from a stress reaction in his lower right fibula but he told reporters that he is most likely to have a minute restriction for the rest of his playing days due to the series of injuries he is dealing with. For now he won’t be playing more than 35 minutes per game which is still a lot for a NBA game but the Wizards have to be concerned that such a young player (22 years old) is already dealing with minutes restriction.
We have to wonder now if the Wizards will offer Beal the maximum contract he was eyeing with all the information they have regarding his injuries. Bradley Beal will be a restricted free agent this summer so the Wizards will have the last word but it will be interesting to see if Beal is part of their future, I guess he will be auditioning for the rest of the season to prove he is still the same player.
