With the rise of CTE in physical sports, players are cutting their games significantly shorter, some with the reasons of just wanting to be around for their kids. We have seen players commit suicide and even the recently retired, Antwaan Randle El, who can barely walk down the stairs so, when Calvin Johnson announced retirement, it didn’t shock me.
Naturally, people want him to stick around, have to admit, the man still has years ahead of him and he’s still considered one of the leagues best receivers; should he still reconsider retiring? Vikings RB, Adrian Peterson, believes so.
“I hope he [doesn’t retire],” Peterson said. “It’d be sad to see him go with so much potential left, so much left in the tank.”
“You’ll just miss what he [does],” Peterson added. “He’s an outstanding player. Can’t name too many guys that make the type of plays that he makes. So it’ll be sad to see that go.”
No one wants to see a great player, well before his time, but sometimes a player knows when he’s had enough. I think we can all agree, seeing Megatron get a ring or at least in a strong position to, is something we would like to see, but who are we to ask him to take that risk? Hopefully, Johnson has a strong support system and can make a sound decision for himself and his family.
