I’ve been a Twitter-head since 2009 and unlike Facebook, it hasn’t gone through too many excruciating changes. Until now. BuzzFeed with the details of the changes:
“The timeline will reorder tweets based on what Twitter’s algorithm thinks people most want to see, a departure from the current feed’s reverse chronological order…an algorithmic timeline represents a way for Twitter to elevate popular content, and could solve some of Twitter’s signal-to-noise problems. It is also widely assumed to be anathema to the platform’s typically vocal power users.”
It was stated that it isn’t clear if it will be an option or the new normal with no option for change. The tricky thing with change is to not have your first reaction be negative because doing what you’re already doing almost always seems easier, but it’s not always true. If it is garbage, you have to know when to move on and find the next big thing. Which there always will be, I remember when LiveJournal was never going away.
Maybe the new Twitter will be better and more user-friendly and we just don’t know it yet. I mean they did invent the Twitter we do like, but to counter, I like Twitter because of how everything is in absolute real time. It changed how my generation collects their news. I don’t want to wait until it’s already on the news, I want my information the second it happens. Hopefully, this change won’t ruin that.
