Kevin Durant can do just about anything with kind of athleticism, stardom, and money he has, but one thing he can’t do is make all of these free agency rumors go away.
Derek Fisher was fired as the Knicks coach leaving them with Kurt Rambis at the helm. While the Knicks explore all head coaching options out there, one name in particular sticks out because of the relationship with KD. From ESPN:
[Scott] Brooks is a name to think about, for one reason: The Knicks have been informed that their chances of landing Kevin Durant this summer would be influenced by hiring Brooks, according to league sources. New York faces long odds to land Durant to begin with. And their chances took a hit after Derek Fisher was fired, league sources say. As noted here previously, Fisher was going to be a factor in Durant’s free agency this summer. But hiring Brooks could get Durant’s attention.
Hiring Scott Brooks may get Durant’s attention, but there is just absolutely no way KD is going to find a better situation than he is already in- like playing with Russell Westbrook? Just because the Thunder haven’t reached the pinnacle yet doesn’t mean they won’t- their window is not closing. They are competing and have had a real chance to win the title every year. Sure they’ve made mistakes and had injuries that held them back, but the ceiling is just so high. It’s going to take a lot more than Scott Brooks to convince him to leave.
