San Francisco is not only home to Super Bowl 50 but also home to the headquarters of Uber, the popular ride sharing service. Uber is an official sponser after partnerering with the Super Bowl Host Committee but drivers are not happy at what they deem unfair treatment from Uber. Well, this leads us to the #UberBowlStrike which is getting attention to the company for the wrong reasons. Pay decreases and strict guidelines have angered many Uber drivers and there is a call for all Uber drivers to not work on Sunday. This Uber drivers strike during the Super Bowl in their home turf would be an embarrassment for the company.

Uber is worth anywhere between $50-$70 billion so you can see how a lot of the drivers aren’t happy in the low wages they are getting. Of course, Uber would say that the drivers are not employees so they don’t have to succumb to usual employer mandates. If this strike really happens and becomes a big deal, it may hurt the reputation of Uber as they continue to make news headlines.
At the end, I am sure enough will strike to make some noise but plenty of people are happy with Uber for what it is and will be working the game. Let’s see how far the strike goes and if they can do anything to really spotlight their case, like some kind of caravan to make havoc out of the traffic. Of course I wonder if some of this Uber-hate is being pushed by the pro-Taxi lobby. What better way to hurt Uber than to try and create dissent from within?
