If you think CJ McCollum has forgotten about Doc Rivers choosing to make him sit for an entire game after a pregame mishap gave him that option, he hasn’t. If you are outside of the Pacific Northwest bubble, you might not know too much about CJ. He hosts a hip-hop show for a local Portland station that is very well done. In all of his interviews, he comes off as smart, comfortable, and entertaining.
So what I’m saying is, the dude is slick with his words. They are carefully placed, so let’s hear the quote from CJ on name-gate. Details via Oregon Live:
“It’s unfortunate that that’s how it had to go down,” McCollum said Wednesday night, when asked about the postgame exchange. “But if it was my son, I would probably protect him, too.”
Poor Austin, he wasn’t even a part of this, but when your dad is the coach, you’re a part of everything. Though he is often the butt of the joke, I have to say I’m actually impressed by the way he has done since the low-point of his career hit as he got to Los Angeles. I’m sure he doesn’t like having his Dad as the coach just as much as the next guy would, but that’s life for young Austin.
