Quite a scene going down at CAL.
It wasn’t too long ago we reported on FIU women’s basketball coach being investigated for trying to have sex with one of his players.
Now, we have a CAL assistant coach freezing out a reporter for not having sex with him. SFChronicle breaks it all down.
The office began investigating Yann Hufnagel, an assistant coach for the Cal men’s basketball team, in August 2015.
The accuser, a reporter who covered the team last season, claimed that she received “sexually harassing communications” from Hufnagel on a bi-weekly basis between November 2014 and May 2015 in response to her attempts to communicate with the assistant coach for professional purposes. She detailed one March 2015 text message exchange in which Hufnagel allegedly made sexual innuendos to her implying, in her words, “Come have a three-way with me.”
The accuser also detailed an interaction with Hufnagel prior to Feb. 23, 2015 that occurred after she had attempted to meet with him for coffee. She claimed that, after Hufnagel insisted they go to a bar, they met at Jupiter in Berkeley, according to a report of the investigation. The complaint continued that, after Hufnagel drank “one or two beers,” she drove him to his apartment, where Hufnagel propositioned her for sex.
After rejecting Hufnagel’s advances that night, according to the report, the accuser said Hufnagel was no longer willing to provide her with information. She claimed she wasn’t able to do her job and, ultimately, stopped covering the team.
Hufnagel was fired and the reporter was fired from her job as well.
Seems like that is unfair to the reporter and she should get her job back.
