In a recent Rolling Stone interview, comedian Tracy Morgan revealed the difficulty he experienced while recovering from the horrific 2014 accident involving a Walmart tractor trailer. Morgan suffered a traumatic brain injury and spent eight days in a coma. He speaks of “dark days” in the interview.
My thoughts – I was in a very dark place. I was sitting right here, contemplating suicide. I couldn’t walk.
Important to note, Morgan lost his mentor and very close friend James McNair in that tragic accident.
Emotionally, it’s hard for me to deal with. I asked everybody to be there that night. I have to live with that. But I had to forgive myself. I know Jimmy would want it like that.
In the 21 months since the accident Morgan has worked diligently on his physical and mental recovery. He has hosted SNL, done a Danish Girl Oscar skit and is embarking on a nationwide comedy tour. Morgan is healing the best way he knows how, through laughter, and has a renewed sense of focus.
I look forward to my wife getting pregnant again. I look forward to my daughter going to nursery school. I’m here. I get to see all of that.
