Tom Brady isn’t just football smart. Knowing that this deflategate situation isn’t over, Brady had his contract worked so it minimises any money if suspended. Details from Boston Globe’s Ben Volin and CBS Sports:
Brady previously had a base salary of $9 million for 2016 but now, per La Canfora, will have just a $1 million salary for this coming season. The court system is still dealing with the NFL’s appeal of Brady’s previous victory.
As noted by the Boston Globe‘s Ben Volin, a four-game suspension now would only cost Brady a couple hundred thousand in lost salary, instead of $2 million plus. But all told Brady gets $41 million in new money. He’ll carry cap hits of $14 million, $14 million, $22 million and $22 million, La Canfora reports.
If you would have told me back in 2015 that on March 3rd of 2016 we would still be discussing the air pressure of footballs, I may have finally pursued my interests in model trains. Luckily we’ve had other non-football football stories to clean our pallet. We’ll need it, because I have a feeling this is far from the last we’ve heard of deflategate- or Ballghazi.
