It was clearly a no doubt in many of our minds that Ben Simmons was going to declare for the NBA Draft after only one season at LSU. Simmons is by far the most talented player coming entering this years draft, but should that make him a lock for the No. 1 overall pick?
Simmons for the most part of his short college career was a walking double double, but there were still some things that teams should be worried about. For some people it would feel like Simmons was not really interested in playing, and just going through the motions. The last time we saw Simmons in a LSU uniform they were being ran off the court by Texas A&M which could possibly leave a bad impression for many teams.
If a young talented athlete such as Simmons could go through the motions on a few nights in college the NBA season could be a lot tougher for him. Making millions and playing for a losing team could make Simmons even less interested in playing on a nightly basis.
No doubt Simmons should be a top two pick next year regardless of his deficiencies. They guy who could end up being the top pick in the draft could possibly be Brandon Ingram who is still playing in the NCAA tournament, and will continue to display his talents for NBA teams. It’s still plenty of time for things to change, but for Simmons many people will remember his last college game and how his career finished.
