It seems like every year around this time we’re faced with the dreaded question of whether or not the NCAA tournament field should be expanded or not.
A few years ago, the field expanded from 65 teams to 68 teams and with teams still complaining about being left out such as Monmouth, St. Mary’s and etc for examples this season, many are wondering if we should have another change.
With all of the other tournaments such as the NIT, CBI and etc, one could say why not just have one big tournament versus having all of these other postseason tournaments no one cares about in reality.
Sure, that sounds good on the surface, but having a 128 team tournament or something of that magnitude would just be overkill to be honest. The ‘big dance’ is suppose to be exclusive and if you allow more teams in it at this point, you’ll risk losing a lot of the mystique, which makes this event special.
Also, it’s not as if having more games would really generate that much more money for the NCAA.
This is a prime example of don’t fix what’s not broke.
